Synopsis

The Kings of the Corner peers into homelessness in America to tell the story from all sides.

Regardless of any individual belief or political agenda concerning homelessness, a certain reality exists.  What is that reality? How did these people come to find themselves on the street? Where did they come from, and where are they going?

The Kings of the Corner aims to take an in depth look at the issue of homelessness in America by speaking with the people who live it every day. The goal is to uncover the national reality with a 360 degree point of view and cover issue from the perspectives of the homeless themselves, their families, local governments and officials as well as the general public.

Each city offers a different reality of homelessness. Each has its own rules and nuances; yet they are all very similar.  The Kings of the Corner peers deep into the issue to identify precursors and condition that make people at risk, and why the issue still persists.

Upon completion of the film, 50% off all proceeds will be returned to the homeless participants who meet certain restrictions in an effort to change their lives forever.

Background

In the spring of 2007 King's director, Jeff McDaniel, devised a 3 day social experiment to look at this reality. Wild Line Films conducted the experiment, which was also to be research for a short film they are developing, over three days, undercover as homeless men panhandling for money. "We wanted to experience the reality of being homeless, at least what 3 days worth could offer."

At the end of the 3 day experiment all of the money and food collected by the pair was distributed to homeless people in the area. The experiences from those 3 days and the interest of the people that saw the story on the local news lead to the creation of the documentary project, The Kings of the Corner.
